    In Her Own Words

Why do TV news people say things like:

“Next up….Hillary Clinton….In her own words”.

What other words would she have?

Do people regularly talk using other people’s words and I just haven’t picked up on that?

  • Weekly Bits, Pieces – March 6, 2008

    1. If you have an opportunity to see the play “Wicked”, you absolutely must go. It is simply fantastic (wicked good)…..

    2. I used to work at a men’s health clinic called Medical Center For Men. I have many interesting stories from my days there. Earlier this week, I had a flashback about when myself and other staff got the first sign the clinic was going out of business and it was time to start working on the resume – they stopped buying toilet paper…..

    3. I went to the store a few weeks ago to buy a new tie. I had a really hard time finding one that I really liked. Because of the event I was attending, I decided I would buy a tie that I thought was gay friendly. Later during the event, I realized it wasn’t gay friendly, it was just plain gay…..

    4. This Just In: The award for the 80’s video with the two best singers with underbites goes to:
Peter Cetera and Amy Grant for “Next Time I Fall”…..

    5. New CDs I recently added to the collection (two from Neil Peart’s recommended list):

    * The Heavy Circles (featuring Edie Brickell)
    * Knowledge & Innocence – Terry Scott Taylor
    * Frank Sinatra – Live At The Sands
    * Hanson – The Walk
    * Patrick Ryan Clark – Translation
    * Bill Haley – Rock Around The Clock
    * Massive Attack – Blue Lines
    * Judas Priest – British Steel

    6. Did you see the recent SNL show with Tina Fey hosting? SNL is funny again – perhaps because the writers had 4 months to brainstorm new material?

  • Die Hardly Working

Anyone watching On The Lot on Fox?

My favorite Director, Zach Lipovsky was voted off this week which is a real shame. He reminds me of Chris Daughtry who was by far the best of the final American Idols, but somehow didn’t get enough votes to stay in the competition.

Here’s Zach’s finest work from his time On The Lot:

  • Most Creative SNL Digital Short

What is your favorite SNL Digital Short?

There have been some good ones in the last year, but I think by far the most creative one is Dear Sister. I didn’t realize until today that it’s a parody of the season finale of The O.C.

You may need to turn up the volume a bit on this, but enjoy and let me know your favorite:

  • What’s On Your DVR?

The season finale (and last episode forever) of The Sopranos is on Sunday night. I have to admit I’m a little sad and will miss Tony, Carm, and the family.

What shows still remain on your DVR from last season that are unwatched? What are you planning on recording/watching this summer?

    Here is my list:

    The Riches (quirky dramady)
Rescue Me (season 4 starts Wed., one of the top dramas on TV, Dennis Leary is hilarious)
The 4400 (starts mid-June, if you like Heroes you’ll love this)
The Sarah Silverman Show (reruns on Comedy Central, not for the kids)
Wiseguy (reruns on HDNET, my favorite show of all time)
On The Lot (loved Project Greenlight, hope this one is good)
Traveler (if you like 24 or Prison Break, you should like this one)
Studio 60 (great drama, cancelled and replaced with a meaningless reality show)
Jericho (cancelled, then resurrected based on fan outcry, if you liked Showtime’s “Jeremiah” you’ll like this)

  • News Titling Snafu (MSNBC & Niger Innis)

Somebody, please tell me how this can possibly happen??? Back in 2005 during the Enron scandal, MSNBC invited conservative Republican Niger Innis on to discuss “The Enron Mess”. Take a look at the major error made by whomever was working the titling:

    msnbc-niger-innis.jpg

When typically they would be on this like rabid dogs, apparently not a peep was heard from The Revs Jackson and Sharpton. That sure is a head scratcher isn’t it???

I’ve often wondered if the oft-liberal-leaning MSNBC got a free pass on this and what might have happened had this screw-up happened on Fox News?

  • Idol Familiarities

The first time I saw Taylor Hicks in last season’s American Idol, I said to myself, “Who does he look like?” I kept on saying that for 3 months. In fact, the season ended and I had forgotten about it, then last week while doing some random activity it hit me. He looks a lot like the lead guitarist from Blondie, Chris Stein. Here’s Hicks ….. and here’s Stein. More on Stein and Debbie Harry in an upcoming blog post.

Like a bad cold, the idol familiarities are already back for me.

Top 24 finalist Chris Richardson looks a lot like someone else that I’ve seen on television. This time, it didn’t take me months at all. Here is a picture of Chris and next to him is Bradley Cooper who starred on Alias, Jack & Bobby, and most recently Kitchen Confidential.

    Scary eh?

  • The Cavs, Nerf and NBA Hugging

Since moving back to the Cleveland area, I’ve definitely renewed my love for the Cleveland Cavaliers.

I have such fond childhood memories of listening to the Cavs on WWWE while playing nerf basketball in my bedroom. Hey, I got so good at Nerf Around The World, that even my big brother couldn’t beat me….and as a high school basketball player, he really hated losing nerf basketball to his little brother. So now you know not to ever challenge me to a game of nerf basketball.

nba-hug-1.jpgSo when did NBA players exactly start the hugfest before each game? It seems to have started last year, but I’ve really noticed it more this year…and it’s bothering me more and more.

I don’t hate the Pistons like I hate the Steelers (yet), but after losing to them in 7 games in last year’s playoffs and wanting to kick Rasheed Wallace in the teeth during every game, I just don’t understand Piston hugging or any hugging for that matter.

I understand some of these guys are friends off the court and I think that’s fine. We all need friends. We all need hugs.

nba-elbow.jpegBut I have to admit, strictly from a fan standpoint, the last thing I want to see right before MY team goes to battle in an important game, especially with big time rivals, is for them to be embracing the enemy. It makes me feel like the feeling is [said with girly voice] “How fun! A fun and friendly pick-up game of basketball with friends! Yeah!”

Can someone explain to me how you can throw your arms around someone one minute and toss an elbow at their head a minute later? Apparently, the little boy in this picture agrees with me.

I’ve checked GoDaddy and www.StopTheHugging.com is available. Would you join me in protest?

The only hugging I want to see my team doing is with each other as they hoist the championship trophy.
