Like I Was Telling (Fill In The Blank)…

I find it interesting how some people in conversation feel like they have to keep talking as if any silence whatsoever means they have lost.

Another thing I find interesting (and yes I’ve found myself doing it a time or two), is when people who instead of telling you things, its more about them regurgitating what they told someone else. In other words, most of what they say begins with:

“Like I was telling my brother the other day…”.

I especially love it when they can’t remember who they were telling, so it goes something like this:

“Like I was telling……….dang, who was that………….I was telling someone the other day….was that my cousin or my cousin’s husband….well anyway, I was telling SOMEONE the other day about….oh dang, I forgot what I was telling them…….what was that again………oh well nevermind.”

If I was on The Office, this is where I glance over at the camera and slightly raise my eyebrows.

I have an acquaintance who has to be the most boring person ever to walk the face of the earth. She will talk to me at length about the most uninteresting topics imaginable. If, by some stroke of luck, our conversation is interrupted for a few minutes, or hours, or days even, the next time we have a chance to pick up the conversation, she remembers the exact point where she stopped and picks up from there. The moral is…try to avoid initiating any conversations with her.
