Theologically, Your Worldview Is….

I’ve been reading Eric’s Blog recently and he recommended a very interesting 50 question quiz that will suggest your theological worldview. Here is a link to the quiz. Click the Comments link below and let me know how you score?

I was not surprised at my low Roman Catholic score. However, being raised in a Charismatic Pentecostal church, I was a little surprised that this was my second lowest score.

Here are my results:

You scored as Evangelical Holiness/Wesleyan, You are an evangelical in the Wesleyan tradition. You believe that God’s grace enables you to choose to believe in him, even though you yourself are totally depraved. The gift of the Holy Spirit gives you assurance of your salvation, and he also enables you to live the life of obedience to which God has called us. You are influenced heavly by John Wesley and the Methodists.

Well….no big shock and surprise. I am what I thought I am. Very disgusted with organized religion and in need of something else. Just don’t know where to find it……..very interesting quiz. I’m going to have Matt and Jantzen do it, too. We’ll post their results.
    Me :o)

    You scored as a Emergent/Postmodern
You are Emergent/Postmodern in your theology. You feel alienated from older forms of church, you don’t think they connect to modern culture very well. No one knows the whole truth about God, and we have much to learn from each other, and so learning takes place in dialogue. Evangelism should take place in relationships rather than through crusades and altar-calls. People are interested in spirituality and want to ask questions, so the church should help them to do this.

Very interesting Matt & LynDel….Matt you are higher on Charismatic/Pentecostal than both of us!

  • dorsey June 16, 2007

I took this about a year and a half ago and scored highly emergent. Thing is, I think I only scored that because I dig questioning and was severely pissed off at church. I’m still not sure what an Emergent theology looks like. But then, the idea that it’s so hard to pin down makes it attractive to me. Is there such a thing as Contrarianism? Cause I think I’m one of them.

    Hi Doug,
I was searching my son Dane’s name and your blog came up. You, Dane and Scott were big buddies in Irving many years ago. My daughter Melanie was generally close by, also. I have fond memories of you and all the gang from the church youth group coming over. You were all so sweet and funny! I’m glad to see that you are a family man (and still sweet and funny). All the best to you, Kim and the kids.

Please tell Dane and Melanie “hello” from me! Dane would get a kick out of this picture: Worm Night 1984

Hi Doug……..and Kim……we remember you well even if we’re forgotten!!!
Matt and LynDel speak of you often and affectionately….looks like you’d arrange living across the street from each other somewhere in the US.
All’s well with us in DM…..still healthy and happy….
Maybe we’ll see you again one day at the Ausbury/Long wedding!!
    luv, M&M

    Dorsey,
I totally understand the “questioning everything.” I was raised a PK and was TOLD what to believe, so when I got out from under that, I started to realize that everything just wasn’t the way I was always told it was. I started questioning. I, like you, think I scored so high on Emergent because of that reason. I want to talk about issues, and find out what people believe and why. That is far more important to me than “going to church” right now. I’m still “seriously pissed off” at organized religion ~ I’m having a really difficult time breaking out of that. But I know that I love God with all my heart, and that I’m totally o.k. with Him, and for now, that is enough for me.

I’ve read some of your blogs (from Doug’s link) ~ you’re putting into words so many of my own thoughts in recent years. I’ve come to believe that there are millions of us out there ~ all asking the same questions and not getting any answers. But even that is o.k. It tells me that I’m still on a journey, and I’m not alone. :o)

    Keep on writing.

    I’m a Wesleyan too…who knew?!

If anyone is interested in hearing a very unconventional pastor in Texas, check out:

Matt Chandler (at I Tunes – free downloads)

Matt Chandler is a breath of fresh air who calls the nonsense of evangelicalism (is that a word?) as he sees it. Take a minute and listen to him sometime. He’s given me new hope in organized religion.

When is the next spades tournament? I’ll bring the donuts…

Doug, what kind of links are you trying to send me to???

I tried to access the site at work and it was blocked due to “Adult Content”! I guess I’ll actually have to do it on my own time. I’ll report back later with the results. I’m thinking I might be a bit more Roman Catholic than others. That was drilled into my head for 11 years at school.

  • Ausbury July 8, 2007

    Hi Doug!

Great to see your blog redesign/work!

Postmodern sounds awfully nasty. I hope there’s a different definition for it in the theological world than in the literary world… I don’t feel terribly postmodern, but then, I believe Jesus was about people first, doctrines second. So, here goes….

    You scored as a Emergent/Postmodern

You are Emergent/Postmodern in your theology. You feel alienated from older forms of church, you don’t think they connect to modern culture very well. No one knows the whole truth about God, and we have much to learn from each other, and so learning takes place in dialogue.
